For 2019, we have chosen to highlight the Akrotiri Peninsula and its importance to birds.
Akrotiri Peninsula is one of the most species-rich and important areas of the island for birds and other wildlife. Located at the southernmost point of the island, this unique and complex landscape is used by thousands of migratory birds. In winter and spring, waterbirds congregate here in their thousands, while in autumn hundreds of raptors and other soaring birds use the area extensively as they migrate towards Africa.
Protecting this important area means giving birds and other wildlife a place to thrive in and people the opportunity to enjoy them.
We hope that this calendar will inspire, awaken and spark action for the protection of this important and also threatened natural area.
