Why do birds matter? What is their role in the ecosystem? Why is Cyprus important for them? The new BirdLife Cyprus documentary answers these and more questions\u2026<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Following the great success of the first screening of its documentary in Nicosia, BirdLife Cyprus, in collaboration with the Cyprus Conservation Foundation \u2013 Terra Cypria and with the support of NABU (BirdLife in Germany), presents a 2nd screening of \u2018Wings on the Wind\u2019, a documentary about birds, the wonder of migration and the threats they face. The screening will take place on Thursday 28 September 2017 at 19:30 at the Akrotiri Environmental Education and Information Centre, Akrotiri village, Limassol<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did we learn about the wonder of bird migration? How long does it take? What difficulties do birds face on this journey? These are some of the questions that the 20-minute documentary deals with, while presenting impressive footage of natural landscapes and birds in Cyprus: from our endemic species, the Cyprus Wheatear and the Cyprus Warbler, to the unmistakeable Roller and the bright-coloured Bee-eater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The documentary highlights the urgent need for the protection of birds and nature in general, since unfortunately they are facing a growing number of threats. Knowledge, love and appreciation are a prerequisite for taking responsible action in favor of birds and nature, but also for humans, who also depend on healthy ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Birds are all around us, hidden in plain sight. Even if you cannot see them, you can definitely hear them. Autumn in Cyprus is the best time of year to see large soaring birds on migration and Akrotiri, where the screening will take place, is among the ideal areas to admire them. This documentary is a first step towards discovering the natural wealth of our island. The second step is to go outside, enjoy it and cherish it\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
