Join us once again as we create a real-time map showing how spring progresses throughout Europe by observing five migratory bird species: White Stork, Barn Swallow, Common Swift, Common Cuckoo and Bee-eater.
As of today, 1 February 2016, until the end of Spring, children from all around Europe will observe and record their first personal sightings of these five migratory bird species. With these observations BirdLife International creates a map showing when and how these birds arrive in Europe; in other words, how spring progresses throughout Europe.
Like every year, BirdLife Cyprus, the coordinator of Spring Alive in Cyprus, is inviting all of you to embrace the project and celebrate the arrival of spring on the island with your observations. All you need to do, is register your first sightings of any of the five migratory species mentioned above online the first time you see them. You can do so by entering the project’s website www.springalive.net and ‘add your observation’ (available in Greek and English). You can do your Spring Alive observations in your neighbourhood, your school surrounding or while on a Sunday walk. Last year, Spring Alive reached over 6.4 million people and 106,734 observations were submitted! So get yourself ready for the new encounter with the phenomenal migratory birds. See you out there!
