Building the future through nature education

Not even a month had passed since I started my postgraduate studies in Education for Sustainable Development / Environmental Education, when I realized that this is what I want to do: to inspire in others respect and love for the planet we share and empower people to take action towards a better future and safe environment.

So, I can’t describe how big the smile on my face was when I read that BirdLife Cyprus was seeking to hire a person for the position of Education and Development Officer. Without a second thought, I applied for the position and… here I am, BirdLife Cyprus’ new Education and Development Officer! I couldn’t be more excited and grateful for the opportunity I was given and the fact that I‘ll lead the delivery of the organisation’s education work, with the focus on local schools, and also work on developing membership.

NGOs can play a vital role in inspiring respect and action for nature and in raising awareness among children about the need to protect birds and the biodiversity of our planet. By hiring an Education Officer, BirdLife Cyprus highlights the importance of environmental education in protecting birds and their habitats in Cyprus and the importance of having a person dedicated to make this happen. Challenge accepted!
