About the project
The “Birds Flying High” project is an educational initiative that evolved from a collaborative effort between Almyras, BirdLife Cyprus, and primary school teachers. Initially launched in Cyprus, the program was designed to raise awareness among primary school students about local bird species, integrating STEAM and non-formal educational methods.
‘Birds Flying High’ project aims to provide primary school teachers with a unique environmental educational program that helps their students appreciate and connect with birdlife that lives around them and co-exist in the cities and villages. The implementation of the programme at the schools aims to raise awareness among students about the threats that birds face, to cultivate positive attitudes towards the protection of birds and their habitats and to empower the school community to help birds at their school or children’s homes.
‘Birds Flying High’ project is funded by the Erasmus+ European funding tool (Small-Scale Partnerships-Key Action 2) and it’s being implemented by two partners in Cyprus (BirdLife Cyprus and Almyras) and one partner in Greece (Hellenic Ornithological Society).
In Cyprus, the project brought students and teachers at Konstantinoupoleos, Mathiatis and Lymbia Primary Schools closer to nature and birds. Showing an undiminished interest and creativity, they studied birds through various learning subjects, such as Greek, Mathematics, Art and Information Technology.
