BirdLife Cyprus has been undertaking its systematic monitoring field programme of illegal bird trapping activity since the beginning of September 2016 which will continue until mid-October, covering the autumn bird migration which is the main trapping period of migratory birds.

It is still early in the season to assess the overall situation for the bird trapping activity however trapping activity both with mist nets and limesticks has been recorded by the field team and has been reported to the competent authorities for action. We also ask the public to report to the competent authorities any trapping activity with mist nets or limesticks or calling devices that is detected, or alternatively BirdLife Cyprus could report it anonymously to the authorities.
