Key information: The shy Black Francolin is more often heard than seen. It can be found in dry plains, near coasts, wetlands or cultivated fields. It is a sedentary bird that is usually found on the ground hidden in vegetation. The male has a very distinctive call, which can be heard all day from a great distance during the breeding season.

Length: 33 – 36 cm

Habitat: Farmland, wetlands

When they can be seen: All year round

What they eat: Seeds, invertebrates

In Cyprus: Can be seen in cultivated fields all over Cyprus, but mostly in Paphos district and on the Karpasia Peninsula

Status: Resident breeder
