Key information: The Common Buzzard is a medium-sized bird of prey that can be found in Cyprus in small numbers during migration and in the winter. As a solitary bird, it is often seen alone here in Cyprus. Its plumage varies, from dark brown to much paler, but all variations have dark wing tips and a fine dark tail barring. It is smaller than the Long-legged Buzzard.
Length: 48 – 56 cm | Wingspan: 110 – 130 cm
Habitat: Farmland
When they can be seen: Autumn, winter, spring
What they eat: Small birds and mammals, rodents
In Cyprus: Can be found at migration hotspots, such as Akrotiri Peninsula and Paphos Plains
Status: Passage migrant, winter visitor
