Join us on Saturday 16 December at 9am at the Cape Greco Environmental Education and Information Centre to experience nature in new ways! What will we do? A bird ringing demonstration, a creative mapping workshop in nature and picnic*!
At 9 am we start with the creative mapping workshop in nature. Forget maps as you know them! The workshop starts with a short presentation of the creative mapping methods as well as some examples. Then, the opportunity to explore the surrounding area and make your own creative map is yours to take! And once you complete your artwork, you can submit it to take part in the ‘Wild for nature’ competition, for your chance to win prizes worth over 1500 euro and to take part in an exhibition with the winning and most interesting submissions! You can register individually or as a group (the mapping will take place in groups of 3 to 6 people).
At 11 we continue with a bird ringing demonstration. You will have the opportunity to see wild birds up close, being ringed and released back into nature! Bird ringing is a scientific method for the study of wild birds, where a ring with a unique code is placed on the bird’s leg. Learn how, why and who does bird ringing and how we got from Aristotle’s theory to today’s understanding of bird migration.
After the ringing we will enjoy a picnic taking in the beautiful landscape of the area!
