Key information: The Goldfinch is a stunningly colourful bird that can be seen perched on thorny bushes. It is very sociable and is usually seen in small flocks of up to 20 birds flying from bush to bush. They fly in a bouncy, undulating pattern accompanied by a cheery twittering call. Juveniles lack the red, black and white on the head.

Length: 12,5 – 13 cm

Habitat: Farmland, mountains and forests, scrub and bushes, towns and villages

When they can be seen: All year round

What they eat: Seeds

In Cyprus: Can be seen in farmland areas all over Cyprus

Status: Resident breeder
