BirdLife Cyprus has been undertaking its systematic monitoring field programme of illegal bird trapping activity since the beginning of September 2016 which will continue until mid-October, covering the autumn bird migration which is the main trapping period of migratory birds.

BirdLife Cyprus is organising two birdwatching outings for families, one at Athalassa Park and one at Oroklini Lake, to introduce both adults and children to the enchanting world of birds and birdwatching.

The team here at BirdLife Cyprus are always excited to engage with people and spread the message about the work that we do. We organise birdwatching events and field meetings, set up our stall at fairs and festivals, and give talks and seminars at schools and to organised groups.

BirdLife Cyprus participated at the Birdfair, the biggest wild life event in the world, for the 3rd consecutive year, which took place on 19 – 21 August 2016 at the Rutland Water Nature Reserve in England. The aim of the Fair is to get birdwatchers together to celebrate birds, to develop a commercial fair for the birdwatching industry and to support international conservation projects.

BirdLife Cyprus will be once again taking part at the British Birdfair, the world’s largest wildlife event, to raise awareness about its campaigns and projects as well as promote Cyprus as a birdwatching destination.

BirdLife Cyprus successfully organized a workshop titled 'Workshop on best practices for tackling wildlife crime: bird trapping, poisoning and illegal trade’ on July 18, 2016 in Nicosia, with the support of the MAVA Foundation. Various government departments (Environment Department, Veterinary Services, Customs, Game and Fauna Service, Cyprus Police Anti-poaching Unit), environmental organizations (Terra Cypria, Friends of the Earth Cyprus, Hellenic Ornithological Society) as well as an expert from the Natural History Museum of Crete attended the workshop.

Through the ‘153 birds’ drawing competition BirdLife Cyprus received over 300 drawings as well as a lot of enthusiasm, interest and curiosity for the magical world of birds. This great response has exceeded our expectations and we would like to thank everyone who submitted a drawing and supported the campaign!
