As the four-month spring/summer survey season (March-June) comes to a close, BirdLife Cyprus volunteers have completed over 350 surveys across the length and breadth of Cyprus.

In all, around 30 volunteer bird recorders – including some office staff and four full-time visiting volunteers (Shannon O’Grady, Anders Gray, Nathan Wilkie and Ellie Ellwood) – have undertaken surveys for common breeding birds, nocturnal birds and wetland birds. As the season progressed into May and June, Roller surveys, Atlas surveys, Calandra Lark and Audouin’s Gull surveys were added to the effort.

In recent years, thanks to volunteer effort, we have achieved very good systematic bird survey coverage for Cyprus. This puts us in a much more knowledgeable position regarding the status of our birds. Our aim is to maintain this effort by supporting our team of dedicated volunteers and continuing to bring in dedicated volunteer support from the UK and Europe.
