Key information: The Mallard is a large duck with a stocky build. Its legs are located in the centre of its body and when it is out of the water, it can walk upright with ease. To feed, it upends its body in the water. Female Mallards nest on the ground and can be seen with their ducklings from April onwards. It is the most common duck of Cyprus.

Length: 50 – 60 cm

Habitat: Wetlands

When they can be seen: All year round

What they eat: Seeds

In Cyprus: Can be seen at natural wetlands, but also man-made ones, such as dams and sewage works

Status: Resident breeder
