BirdLife Cyprus successfully held its first Open Day on 14 May 2016, on the occasion of World Migratory Bird Day which was on 10 May. Over 80 people attended the event and were informed about BirdLife Cyprus and its actions, birds in Cyprus, bird migration and the persistent problem of illegal bird trapping.
The “younger visitors” took part in an experiential workshop, where they learnt about birds and the wonder of migration through a number of fun activities. The “older visitors” watched a presentation about the work of BirdLife Cyprus, with an emphasis on the campaign against illegal bird trapping, followed by a screening of the documentary “Leaving is living” by the Hellenic Ornithological Society (BirdLife in Greece). Throughout the event, young and old drew birds and entered the ‘153 birds’ drawing competition.
A warm thank you from the BirdLife Cyprus team to everyone who joined us on the day and showed their interest and support in what we do!
